History

Photokina is the world’s largest imaging trade show, held biennially in Cologne. While primarily a general photography event, it became increasingly relevant to the underwater photography industry through the 2000s as housing manufacturers began exhibiting.

Photokina 2006

General coverage of camera and housing announcements. Multiple manufacturers showed products. ([1])

Photokina 2008

Featured the first “Underwater Imaging World” pavilion — a dedicated section for UW photography manufacturers. Subal announced the ND700 as “first” Nikon D700 housing. Coverage by Sharon Rainis (Fantasea Line). Multiple housing manufacturers showed D700 and Canon 50D products. ([2])
